Western Carolina senior linebacker Christon Gill, a Bridgeport Central grad, has added third-team
defensive All-America honors from The Sports Network to his resume. It is his second postseason All America honor -- he was also named to the third team by College Sports Madness earlier this month.
Gill, a unanimous All-Southern Conference selection, led Western Carolina in tackles per game in
2014, finishing with a career-best 111 total tackles. He made 51 solo stops, averaging 9.2 tackles per
game. The 6-foot, 225-pound Gill finished fifth in the conference in tackles for loss, averaging one per
game with a team-leading 12 on the season with three sacks.

He recorded double-digit tackles five times on the season, including a career-best 14 stops against
league regular-season champion Chattanooga. Gill had an interception -- the second of his career --
in the home win over VMI, thwarting a late-game, potential scoring drive as he jumped a route over
the middle of the field.

Western finished 7-5 overall, 5-2 in the Southern for second place.

At Central, Gill led the Hilltoppers to a 9-2 record and the FCIAC championship game in 2009 and
was named an all-state defensive back and quarterback. He spent a postgraduate season at Avon Old
Farms. Gill also played basketball in high school, earning all-league honors in helping Central win
the state championship his senior year.
